IRU welcomes Australia’s new Chief Scientist

In launching the Government’s Research Workforce Strategy, Senator Kim Carr today announced the appointment of Professor Ian Chubb AC as Australia’s new Chief Scientist.

“Formerly Vice-Chancellor of ANU and Flinders University, we are delighted with Professor Chubb’s appointment. With his distinguished career in higher education, exceptional research credentials and commitment to industry and community, Professor Chubb is an outstanding leader and an excellent choice for this role,” said Professor Ian O’Connor, IRUChair.

“The role of Chief Scientist has never been more important in an era where science increasingly impacts on our society and the economy.”

The Research Workforce Strategy underpins the Government’s commitment to developing a culture of innovation by building a robust scientific and research community.

IRU looks forward to working with the Government on its implementation.
